La House est genre populaire constitué d’un rythme "four-to-the-floor" (4/4), d’une ligne de basse proche du funk et le plus souvent de vocals (phrases chantées) répétitives. Elle a pour but de créer un groove* à l'aide d'instruments électroniques qui sonnent toutefois réels, contrairement à la Techno dont le rythme repose sur des instruments qui sonnent très «machines».

La House cherche par ailleurs à transmettre un message de liberté et de tolérance envers les exclus de la société. Ses textes peuvent aussi être très sexuels.

House is the mother-genre of the greater part of electronic musics. It consists of a "four-to-the-floor" (4/4) beat, of a bass line close to the disco and the funk, and mostly of repetitive vocals (sung phrases). It aims to create a groove* with the aid of electronic instruments that however tend to sound acoustic, unlike the Techno whose beat is based on instruments sounding very "machine-like".

House also seeks to convey a message of freedom and tolerance toward the excluded by society. Its lyrics can also be very sexual.
